MV Kaleetan is a Super class auto and passenger ferry operated by Washington State Ferries<\/a>, a child department of the Washington State Department of Transportation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was built in San Diego, California in 1967 and re-built in 1999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The vessel has two auto decks, a main passenger deck and a upper level passenger deck giving it a capacity for 1,868 passengers and 144 vehicles in total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kaleetan measures 382 feet 2 inches in length with a beam of 73 feet 2 inches and a draft of 18 feet 6 inches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is powered by four diesel-electric engines that can generate a total of 8,000 horsepower and reach a service speed of 17 knots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Accessible restrooms are available on both auto decks as well as the main passenger deck and elevator access is available from both auto decks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For those hard of hearing, Kaleetan is equipped with a visual paging announcement system that displays important announcements on monitors throughout the boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other amenities include a galley on the upper passenger deck and a limited amount of vending and newspaper machines on the main passenger deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MV Kaleetan is named for the Chinook word meaning “arrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\nOther Super Class Ferries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
