The MV New London is a auto and passenger ferry<\/a> serving the Cross Sound Ferry<\/a>, a ferry route connecting New London, Connecticut and Orient Point in Long Island, New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vessel is powered by Cummins QSK38-M1 turbo-diesel engines and can reach a service speed of 15 knots making it one of the fastest vessels in the Cross Sound Ferry fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MV New London was built in 1979 by Thames Shipyard and Repair Company, a shipbuilding and repair company in New London, Connecticut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It underwent extensive renovations between 1992 and 2003 including the installation of a new upper passenger cabin and a 50 foot mid-body that increased vehicle capacity by 30%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2015, the vessel was widened to create more cabin and vehicle space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
