MV Hydrus is a Hydrus Class passenger ferry owned and operated by San Francisco Bay Ferry. It frequently serves the Alameda Ferry, Alameda Seaplane Ferry, Alameda Short Hop Ferry and Oakland Ferry routes. It has capacity for 400 passengers, 50 bikes, features onboard restrooms, snacks, drinks and WIFI, and is wheelchair accessible.
The vessel was built by Vigor (formerly Kvichak Marine Industries) at a cost of $15.1 million. It began service in April 2017, replacing the MV Encinal.
It uses two MTU 12V4000 engines and a propeller for propulsion, and can reach a service speed of 27 knots (31 miles per hour).
The MV Hydrus measures 41 meters in length and has a gross tonnage of 95 tons. It runs on Bio Diesel B5 and has a fuel capacity of 3,000 gallons.
