Alameda Short Hop Ferry

The Alameda Short Hop Ferry, operated by San Francisco Bay Ferry, is a weekday commuter ferry service between Main Street Alameda ferry terminal and Oakland ferry terminal near Jack London Square.

The Short Hop ferry ride is 10 minutes from dock to dock. It is primarily used by residents of Alameda that work in Oakland. However, it is also a good option for Alamedans looking to visit Oakland on a weekday.

There are six departures out of Alameda on weekday mornings and 11 return trips from Oakland starting in the afternoon.

Directions

By Bus

There are no public transit options that drop off directly in front of the Alameda Main Street ferry terminal. However, you can get fairly close on AC Transit Line 96. AC Transit Line 96 will take you down Main Street before turning onto W Midway Ave. You can exit the bus at the corner of W Midway Ave and Orion Street. From there, it is an approximately 10-minute walk to the terminal.

By Bike

If you like bicycling, you can ride your bike along the San Francisco Bay Trail right up to the entrance of the Main Street terminal.

Oakland Ferry Terminal

Directions

By AC Transit bus service

The Oakland ferry terminal is served by the following two AC transit bus routes.

  • Line 72: Hilltop – CCC – San Pablo
  • Line 12: MLK Jr. – Temescal – Grand

If you are traveling by AC Transit Line 27, the bus will stop at 2nd Street and Washington Street. From there, you will need to walk approximately 3-5 minutes (0.2 miles) to the ferry landing.

If you are taking AC Transit Line 12, the bus will stop at Embarcadero and Broadway. You’ll need to walk approximately 4-5 minutes (0.2 miles) from the stop to the ferry landing.

By Amtrak

The following Amtrak train routes serve Oakland and are a short walk away from the terminal.

  • Capitol Corridor
  • San Joaquins
  • Coast Starlight

If traveling via Amtrak, you’ll need to walk approximately 10 minutes (0.5 miles) from the Jack London Square Train Station to the ferry terminal.

By BART

You’ll want to get off at the 12th St. Oakland City Center BART station to the ferry terminal from BART. You’ll then walk approximately 15 minutes (0.7 miles) to the Oakland ferry landing.

Parking

Parking at Main St. Alameda Ferry Terminal

Two parking lots are available at the Main St. Alameda Ferry Terminal.

The primary parking lot is located right at the terminal and can accommodate parking for up to 324 cars.

Another parking lot, O’Lot, is located on Main Street 1/4 mile west of the main parking lot and is approximately a 5-minute walk to the terminal. It can accommodate an additional 121 cars.

Both lots are FREE to park in, but overnight parking is prohibited.

Parking at Oakland Ferry Terminal

Oakland ferry parking is available near the terminal at the 101 Washington Street parking garage. Passengers receive up to 12 hours of free validated parking at this garage. Ferry riders will be responsible for any additional costs when parking in the garage for more than 12 hours.

  • Friday: 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM to 1:00 AM
  • Sunday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM

If parking in the 101 Washington Street garage, you can validate your parking at the ferry terminal.
